New York Night

I had a wonderful time last night at an UsWeekly party, and have to say I loved wearing this look from the Spring 2015 Runway —- the wind was crisp, the ruffles were flowing, as was the champagne… loved spending time with Antonella, our PR Director at a lovely venue called Queen of the Night at the Paramount Hotel—- there was a beautiful light installation that caught my eye (picture on left) and pink flowers by candelight.

First Looks

Beautiful backstage photographs of a few of the first looks from the Spring 2015 Runway show from photographer Carlotta Manaigo. I love the ethereal quality her photographs capture, the love of light, the beauty of fragility.

Joy

I came across this image from the Holi Festival and love the rich colors, as well as the general idea behind the festival: a celebration of color and love. There is such joy in our Spring 2015 collection, from the music, to the prints, to the colors, to the spirit of the beautiful models we have cast. Please join us and watch the runway show live on rebeccataylor.com Saturday 9/6 at 1pm live from NYC Fashion Week.

Danielle: The Grapevine Print Jumpsuit

I’m loving the idea of effortless vibe and this jumpsuit is the perfect example. Versatile and easy, it’s definitely my go-to piece of the season.

Must have’s for Fall: A oversized cozy knit, pleated midi leather skirt, paired back to over the knee boots and my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag.

Garry Winogrand

I recently enjoyed an inspirational outing to the Met and loved the Garry Winogrand photography exhibition, a pre-Instagram documentation of everyday life in the mid-century.  A must-see!

An Afternoon at Ovando

Beth and I spent a lovely day with Sandra Ovando, owner of NYC’s premier floral design boutique, Ovando. As I am always inspired by flowers and love to design a beautiful floral print, Sandra is also inspired by the worlds of fashion and art in designing her wonderful arrangements. We found we share similar design philosophies —- design from the heart, keep it simple (although it may be anything but simple) yet unexpected… she refers to the orange flower in the final design a ‘beauty mark’. The experience was a fabulous way to brighten up the day, and the resulting bouquet certainly brightens up the showroom.

Nolita: Charm Central

In the heart of downtown NYC, Nolita is a neighborhood steeped in tradition with an entrepreneurial spirit, revealing itself with its innovative shops and lively restaurants. Its streets are meant to be strolled, hidden pockets waiting to be discovered; parks to slip into and escape the city for a moment, outdoor cafes prime for people watching. You’ll see locals walking dogs giving directions to tourists, shoppers with newly-found treasures, and hear laughter spilling out from bars and restaurants. A guide to some of our favorite spots.

The Butcher’s Daughter. Sunny vegan juice bar and cafe. Bring a book and stay a while. 166 Elizabeth Street.

A.B Biagi Amanda from the Nolita boutique is obsessed with the pear sorbet at A.B Biagi. 235 Elizabeth Street.

Crosby Street Hotel. Whimsical decor with an English flair, lovely spot for afternoon tea or a cheerful happy hour in its brightly lit and colored bar. Rebecca is quite fond of the White Linen drink, Deanna and Noelle are rosé all the way. 79 Crosby Street.

Café Gitane is a neighborhood standby popular with models off-duty and Aussies missing their Vegemite. People-watching paradise. 242 Mott Street.

Public. Enchanting ambiance with open air dining, seductive lighting and a loosely-based library theme. Sophisticated without being stuffy. Ideal for date night. 210 Elizabeth Street.

Shiny and New

To celebrate our 10-year anniversary in a neighborhood we love, Nolita, NYC, we decided to refresh the store with a modern makeover.  Designer Serge Becker worked closely with Rebecca to create the original charming space with a cozy, neighborhood feel — a place to pop by with the dog or gaze out to the garden in back — for the redesign, Visual Manager Erin Ryder made magic happen:

The intention with the design of the store was to strip down the space, creating a chic, modern ‘blank slate’ more or less, which allows each piece of clothing to shine. Our clothing is quite detailed, and intricate, so I didn’t want to detract from this element — this is what makes our pieces special.

With this considered, the store still needed to feel warm, and have the personality of the neighborhood, with a certain direction that makes it obvious you are in a Rebecca Taylor store as soon as you walk in. To imbue the essence of our brand into the space, I worked with a local Brooklyn-based artist to create custom display pieces, made of cement and crystalized rock salt. The first time I saw other works by these artists at a show early this year, I knew they would be perfect for our stores. The subdued intricacy and shimmer, paired with the a natural, yet bold materiality made for an ideal fit at Nolita in particular.
