Page: The Melton Coat
Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. I love outerwear and sweaters, so I’m always really excited when I get to start wearing them. This fall I’m very into menswear. I’ll wear oversized sweaters (I buys mens’ so they’re extra-long) and plaid. The Southern ex-prep school girl in me gets them monogrammed on the cuff-I’ve always liked it when I see this detail on mens’ shirting. The Short Melton Coat is a great “third piece” to throw on top—the roundness of it will ease up on the masculine vibe.
TEXTURE. I just bought a great leopard brocade mini skirt that I can’t wait to wear with a super long nubby cardigan. I like the idea of playing with proportions. A buttoned up shirt underneath and a giant scarf will make it feel not sloppy.
I’m going to invest in a really chic and timeless flat boot; it will be great (and comfy) to toughen up dresses and skirts, and always looks classic and polished with jeans. And of course it will be warm and functional, especially for those days when the temperatures begin to dip. I have a penchant for high heels but practicality has begun to prevail, especially since our last NYC winter was so brutal.
I tend to err on the side of classic with a twist when I dress for fall and winter. Even the most neutral of color palettes (grey and navy are my faves) can be dressed up with the right amount of jewelry and the perfect bag. My social calendar for the chilly months definitely involves red wine and comfort food, so even if I’m wearing something like black jeans and a sweater, I’ll wear about 7 rings to make myself feel a bit more “dressed”. I will obviously and probably exclusively be wearing red lipstick (Mac’s Ruby Woo).
