Pretty in Pink

It’s one of my favorite colors and it’s such a pleasure to see pop up in October: Pink! In support of breast cancer awareness, I’ve seen the color on my to-go lid on my tea from Au Bon Pain and it’s always nice to see on sports uniforms, as a reminder that breast cancer affects everyone in some way. It’s my pleasure to design this top in support of the cause:  fifty percent of the sales goes to The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. We are looking forward to hosting some special events in our stores this month, stay tuned!

Loving LA
So nice to be in LA and mixing business with pleasure, family and friends. Last night we held a party at the boutique on Robertson Blvd to celebrate the launch of the Little White Dress capsule collection supporting the Baby Buggy charity, and tomorrow I’m looking forward to visiting with the women of Fashion Island in Newport in support of Good Neighbors.  I love coming to LA and feel so at home here—- being near the ocean and with my family from New Zealand here touring the city with me as well.  (Got a little starstruck visiting the Chinese theater and seeing Marilyn Monroe’s handprints, a truly talented, beautiful legend.  Has anyone worn a Little White Dress more memorably?!?!)

A Special Night: Bachmann Strauss
One of the benefits of having a store is that there is a large space to throw parties, and one of the benefits to throwing parties is to raise money for a great cause!   This Thursday, April 10th from 6-9pm, our Meatpacking boutique will be hosting a benefit for the Bachmann Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson’s Foundation co-hosted by Allison Hersh London.  20% of the night’s proceeds will benefit this cause.  We’ve co-hosted several events with Bachman Strauss and the parties are always a lot of fun and Allison herself is such an inspiration.    I’ll be there, as will the designers of Vale Jewelry, the lovely Eva and Ava Bai, showing exclusive, exquisite pieces, and we promise surprises…  Please join us!

Comfort and Joy
I’m giving everyone on my list CASHMERE this year… in the form of sweaters, scarves, gloves —- it’s the perfect gift. I love when the presents are opened and to see the people’s reactions — with cashmere, people usually immediately put it on, or at least hold it up to their face and close their eyes, smell it… it really is a tactile and sensual pleasure.
I’ve also been volunteering this year with the Superstorm Sandy hurricane relief effort, and am proud to announce that we’ll be donating scarves, gloves, hats to the Coalition for the Homeless relief effort in New York… giving back and helping however and wherever we can is the most rewarding gift.

Rockaway Relief

Rockaway is still reeling from the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, and people are stepping up to the plate to help.  Robert McKinley and Mike D. are organizing The Rockaway Plate Lunch Truck, with the aim of feeding 1500-2000 residents a day, with the help of some of NYC’s top restaurants.  The photos above are:  a) the Rockaway stock room, waiting to be filled b) Robert manning the grill c) happy and hungry beneficiaries and d) the stunning New York magazine cover by photographer Iwan Baan.  To find out more about this project and to see how you can help, please click here:
