Away We Go

Looking forward to a weekend away at Shelter Island, since next week will be an exceptionally busy one with the Spring 2015 Runway Show preparations. On the agenda: diving into this book of short stories, Emerald City, by one of my favorite writers, Jennifer Egan; spending time with the family, always a treat; throwing on the Geo Print sleeveless top from our upcoming Winter collection, probably with cargo pants, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and some Bobbi Brown pot rouge for color; and listening to a selection of potential songs for the Runway next weekend… hope you will watch it live, Saturday September 6th 1:00 pm here at rebeccataylor.com.

Beautiful Decay

My favorite print of the new collection is the Grey Gardens print, named after the 70’s documentary of eccentric, reclusive socialites living in a house of squalor. I love the idea of controlled chaos— a wild and beautiful floral garden growing as if by magic, with the force of nature. The print was inspired by the techniques of Oriental painting but digital printing allows the print to be transferred to fabrics as varied as organza and leather. It’s a print of contrast: fragility and strength, ancient and modern, beauty and decay.

Peter Lindbergh
If you’re in Los Angeles you should definitely stop by the Fahey Klein Gallery to see the Peter Lindbergh exhibition … one of my favorite photographers, his photographs of women are strong, cool, classic.

Carlotta Manaigo

People who know me well know that one of my favorite quotes is from Roald Dahl:

"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places.  Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it."

When choosing a photographer for our Fall 2013 campaign, it was important to select a photographer who can take an amazing fashion picture, and I also wanted a photographer who can see the magic… when I saw Carlotta’s portfolio, I fell in love with her sensibility.  As she describes her artistic inspiration:

With my camera, with my eyes, I tend to capture what I feel rather than what I see,
creating emotional states. Someone once described my work with the expression
"cold romanticism" which I believe conveys well the contrast within.
My inspiration comes from a fascination with nature in all its form, its game of light and shadows, its wilderness and fragility, sensuous aspects and mysteries.
It’s almost magical when such beauty is revealed.

All Laced Up

Lace portrait by South African artist Pierre Fouche. The skill and beauty of this is so impressive! For our South African followers, you can see it in person at his upcoming show at the Whatiftheworld gallery.
