First Looks

Beautiful backstage photographs of a few of the first looks from the Spring 2015 Runway show from photographer Carlotta Manaigo. I love the ethereal quality her photographs capture, the love of light, the beauty of fragility.

Joy

I came across this image from the Holi Festival and love the rich colors, as well as the general idea behind the festival: a celebration of color and love. There is such joy in our Spring 2015 collection, from the music, to the prints, to the colors, to the spirit of the beautiful models we have cast. Please join us and watch the runway show live on rebeccataylor.com Saturday 9/6 at 1pm live from NYC Fashion Week.

Calm within Chaos

I’m sure many women feel overwhelmed with demands and pressures, whatever they may be; yet I’m sure we all have pleasant spots of the day which place the pressures in perspective, often metaphorically so. Personally, I cherish my time in Shelter Island and the peaceful moments such as watching the waves wash over the pebbles. I also have a new puppy Chewy, which although he has boundless energy, he instills in me a feeling of calm.

We have a new print for Fall which I love: the White Noise print. It’s inspired by the energy of the city and modern life; technology, constant communication of competing frequencies, and the luxury of having a clean space where you can zone out, in peace.

Party Girl: Spring 2014 Runway Makeup

For the Spring 2014 Show, I liked the idea of a girl who partied the night before and didn’t bother taking her makeup off afterwards. I usually like the girls to look a bit tough, very downtown. (The hair had a grunge feel but still quite polished, so we could go stronger on the make-up.)   I worked with long-time collaborator, the creative, talented makeup artist Sil Bruinsma, and below are his notes for those looking to create the effect themselves:

Skin is left quite bare, just a bit of concealer where necessary. Eyebrows are strong and on the darker side using TAUPE. The focus is really on the eyes; dark, kohl rimmed and smudged, in EBONY and PRUNELLA pencil. A smear of MIX MEDIUM on the lids and a dab of concealer on the lips finish of the look.

-Use a lighter to warm up your pencil before applying kohl on the waterline, it will stick better and glide on thickly.

-For a real smoldery effect use a black pencil inside the eye and a deep plum or brown/bronze around the eyes. Smudge out with a q-tip. The two tones create extra depth.

-Don’t be too delicate when applying mascara, really work mascara into the root of the lashes and wiggle over bottom lashes, a little residue on the skin is nice actually and gives a slept-in effect.

-I prefer NOT to curl lashes when I do a tough girl look like this. It just looks cooler.
