A Hearty Meal: Little Neck

Date night in Brooklyn! Wayne loves the oysters and I love the ambiance, the design of the menu and the cocktails ( and the oysters too!). A lovely night.

On the Spot

I am often asked why I love animal prints. They are so intrinsic to my style that it’s a difficult question to answer… I just love it. It is a ‘cool girl / confident woman’ staple and adds kind of an ‘evil glamour’ to any look. It is amazingly versatile as it mixes well with other prints — I especially love it with florals —- and it is timeless. I never think of animal prints as a “trend”.

I do love to find new ways to design a leopard print, sometimes with colors, sometimes a bit more abstract, sometimes more classic; and I love to see the way women style animal prints in their wardrobes. I hope you enjoy what we are showing for fall and you can certainly count on more animal prints coming soon…

The Dance of Reality

One of the first ‘art house’ ‘independent’ movies that I saw was “Santa Sangre”, directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky, so I was so curious to see his latest film (and first in 23 years), “The Dance of Reality.” It’s such a visually stunning movie, I can only describe with a random words: imaginative…powerful…polarizing…bold…magical…ambitious…poetic…surreal…unforgettable. Highly recommended.

The History of Love

Just finished reading this amazing book, The History of Love by Nicole Krauss… it’s richly romantic but with some beautiful yet bitter bits… here is a sample passage I love:

“She was gone, and all that was left was the space you’d grown around her, like a tree that grows around a fence. For a long time, it remained hollow. Years, maybe. And when at last it was filled again, you knew that the new love you felt for a woman would have been impossible without Alma. If it weren’t for her, there would never have been an empty space, or the need to fill it.”

J’Adore: The Lace Sweatshirt

It’s starting to feel like spring in NYC (finally!) and my favorite item from the new collection - The Lace Sweatshirt - is taking a starring role in my spring wardrobe. I love how the melange grey feels light and feminine, and I wear it oversized for extra comfort- although some of the girls in the office prefer a more fitted look. I sometimes wear it over a striped top and let the stripes show through the lace insets for extra interest, and I love it with the Lace Skirt from the runway. It’s sport-inspired modern luxury and beyond trend, I can see myself wearing this for years to come!

The Uncommon Reader

My friend Robbie gave me The Uncommon Reader by Allan Bennett as a gift and I love to gift it as well. It’s a delightful novella that poses a scenario: Queen Elizabeth, at the age of 70, suddenly becomes a voracious reader. She starts reading out of duty, then finds duty turns to curiosity, and curiosity to pleasure:
“What she was finding also was how one book led to another, doors kept opening wherever she turned and the days weren’t long enough for the reading she wanted to do.”

Alan Bennett’s writing is such a joy to read, The Uncommon Reader is a witty tale of the subversive pleasures of reading. Treat yourself to this little treasure of a book!

Wild

I recently read this very emotionally riveting book, “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed, about a woman’s journey hiking the Pacific Coast Trail … ultimately about the choices we make, the adventures of life, the will of the human spirit. Highly recommended!

With Glittering Eyes: Paris and London

I recently took an inspirational trip to Paris and fell in love with the beauty of the city all over again:  The Musee d’Orsay takes my breath away, there are always exciting new artists to discover in museums (this time I learned of Armand Berton and Francois Petrovich) and found myself always looking up with wonder:  the blue ceiling with gold stars at St. Germain Des Pres, and the beautiful ship chandelier at my favorite shop in Paris, Astier de Villate.  Everytime I go to Paris I find something new, and this time it was this lovely candy store, Meert.

London always provides a creative spark and this time I went with a purpose … to see the David Bowie Exhibition at the V & A Museum, which raised the bar on museum exhibitions and literally left me breathless, I thought I would faint… the man is a genius! I also managed to shop, of course, and visited one of my favorite stores, Dover Street Market.
