New Year, New Zealand

I’ve just returned from my annual trip home to New Zealand, and feeling refreshed and reinvigorated by returning to my roots and being surrounded by beauty.

One highlight of the trip was visiting Waiheke island off the coast of Auckland — we took a 40 minute ferry ride over sparkling blue water, as my father wanted to visit the exact spot where he had once freed a hermit crab (back in 1951) which he had marked with chewing gum.  The chewing gum was not there, but we did discover a charming hut.

New Zealand is a feast for the senses, from the smell of the air getting off the plane, the sound of the seashore, to the pink sunsets  – the above photograph was taken from my childhood home, where my parents still live.
