Summer means Shelter Island for me, but for a fall weekend, I love the Catskills … there’s nothing like a mesmerizing campfire, a challenging hike, and warm cozy clothes.

The Graham & Co

The Graham & Co, a small 20-room hotel in Phoenicia, is the brainchild of art director Bianca Barattini and partners.  Bianca helped us to develop the visuals for the La Vie Rebecca Taylor casual line — and her down-to-earth sensibility and on-point taste level is seen in abundance.  The setting is stylish, but the mood is warm and chill.  Says Bianca, “With The Graham & Co. we wanted to create a cool place with a relaxed vibe where we could hang out. The approach was easy, communal and nothing overdone. After five years, it’s still our favorite place to hang out.”

It’s a joy to be in nature, and also a joy to drink good wine:   I love Brunette Wine Bar in Kingston.  Owner Tracy Kennard, also a graphic designer by day, has created a lovely oasis with airy natural light and a curated selection of wonderful wine just a stone’s throw from the Hudson River.

Kate Orne’s Upstate Diary is a beautiful magazine celebrating nature and creativity.  A former fashion editor at Interview Magazine, Kate has exquisite taste and boundless enthusiasm for the region and is chock full of recommendations of what to do.  Some of Kate’s tips:

A day of art, across the border in Massachusetts:  Artist Nick Cave’s exhibition Until at Mass MoCA.

For letting go, lay down in a field and watch the clouds pass by. Any field will do, but do wrap yourself in the Shearling Mix Coat.

To see brilliant design with a dose of magic, visit Russel Wright’s brilliant property Manitoga.
